Olympic Trials Daily Report

Trials Day 8....Another fast prelims this morning. Nicholas and Tayler finally got to race after many days of waiting and working out. They both gained a lot of experience and will come back better for it.

Tonight's finals are going to be increadible with many more fast swims and excitement. We fly home on Sunday and can't wait to get back.

From Nicholas....Hey all! Today was an alright day for me. Taylor and I had the mile to swim (our only event). Overall, I was content with how I swam, but I was glad to be here in the first place. Seeing every night of finals (except for one) was amazing to see. I saw my first world record broken and a lot more go down. The facility alone was the best I've ever seen or even heard of. A Toyota booth next to the warmdown pool provided free bananas, oranges, and Rock Band. I look foward to coming back to practice and getting back to work and seeing everyone!

From Tayler... Hello everyone! This is our last day of Olympic Trials. Everyday of competition was filled with excitement. I have learned a lot from this experience that I will take back with me to my training. I think having this meet behind will definitely help with my future swim meets and to help me along the path. I'll see you all when I get back!

Trials Day 7....It was a huge history making night in Omaha. You could feel the excitement in the Qwest as Dara Torres won the 100 Free final tonight to qualify for her 5th Olympic Games. We saw two great races tonight as Ryan Lochte finished 2nd to Aaron Piersol in the 200 Back, and then finished 2nd in a close 200 IM to Michael Phelps. We got to see our 8th and 9th World Records as Michael Phelps broke the 200 Im WR, and Aaron Piersol tied Ryan Lochte's 200 Back WR. The men's 50 Free is shaping up to be a great final on Saturday night.

Trials Day 6......Tonight we were shocked as Brendan Hansen was upset in the Men's 200 Breaststroke. The other finals and semi finals went pretty much as expected. We are looking forward the Phelps and Lochte showdown in the Men's 200 IM.

Tayler Dubrasky swam a personal best time in the 200 Free Time Trial today and lowered his 17-18 Boys team record with a 1:57.64. Nicholas Caldwell swam a 1:59.53.

Results showing improvements

Trials Day 5...We saw 3 American Records fall tonight as Jason Lezak won the 100 Free, Michael Phelps won the 200 Fly, and Katie Hoff won the 200 IM. All swims were very close to World Records. Nicholas and Tayler are ready to race in the 200 Free time trial on Thursday afternoon. They have been looking better in workouts and are raring to go. We watched Dan Nyardi from Oregon win his heat in the 200 Breaststroke this morning. Dan has trained with us during the winter a few times about 5 years ago

Trials Day 4....Today was an easy day for GCST. We slept in this morning and got to the pool at 10:30 after a good breakfast and then watched prelims. We some great swims this morning in the Men's 200 Free and 200 Fly. The Women swam the prelims of the 200 IM.

Nicholas and Tayler worked out after prelims then we went to the Old Market in downtown Omaha for a late lunch. We went back to the pool and saw Natalie Coughlin Break her own World Record as she won the 100 Back, and Aaron Piersol break the Men's 100 Back World Record. . Michael Phelps was awesome as usual as he won the 200 Free and won his Semi Final heat in the 200 Fly in a great match-up with Davis Tarwater. Katie Hoff swam a great 200 IM Semi Final and almost broke the World Record. Jessica Hardy had a nice 100 Breast to make the Olympic Team in tonight's Finals. We have now seen 7 World Record swims.

Chelsea flys home on Wednesday morning.

Trials Day 3...We saw the Women's 100 Back World Record broken in the 2nd circle seeded prelim heat by Haley McGregory, and then 2 minutes later Natalie Coughlin broke the WR again in the final prelim heat. The stands erupted in applause for several minutes after both swims.

Chelsea swam a 4:26 in the 400 Free prelim heats.

Tayler arrived today and is very excited to be here and race. He and Nicholas will swim a time trial in the 200 Free on Thursday.

Finals were very exciting as we saw swims that were very close to world records and Katie Hoff winning her 2nd event.

From Chelsea.... This experience was a once in a lifetime. The atmosphere was amazing! Getting to march out in front of over nine thousand people was scary but exciting at the same time. Although I did not swim as fast as I would have liked, it was all about getting the experience. I'm looking forward to my three week break, and then coming back and getting ready for my senior year!

Trials Day 2...Today was the first day of the meet, and it started off with a bang as we saw 2 world records broken and 1 American Record. The Qwest Center was on fire as 12,000 people cheered their heads off during finals tonight. The Men's 400 Im was a great race as Phelps and Lochte both went under the World Record in a close battle of 2 titans. Then the men's 400 Free was another close race as 3 guys battled to the touch with Larsen Jenson coming out on top. It was exciting to watch katie Hoff break the World Record in the Women's 400 IM. Brendan Hansen nearly broke the Men's 100 Breast World Record in a very fast Semi Final. Chelsea swims the 400 Free in Prelims on Monday morning. Nicholas has arrived and Tayler comes in on Monday.

Trials Day 1 ....We arrived in Omaha today. The Qwest Center is awesome. The pool looks very fast and the atmosphere is electric. I think we will some of the fastest swimming in history. Chelsea is swimming a time trial in the 200 Free on Sunday afternoon. Nicholas comes to town Sunday, and Tayler joins us on Monday.
