Meet Sinja-Tamara Schmidt. She will be
working with us for 3 months as she completes her college
internship. She will be working with all groups as she learns
about GCST and swimming in the USA.
About Sinja...
I am an intern from Germany. I attended
University of Stuttgart in Germany, and then attended University of
Missouri, St. Louis. I will do an internship for three months at
GCST.
I started swimming when I was 6 and swam
for
SV Schwaebisch Gmuend. In my early swim career I swam
50, 100 and 200m Breaststroke. I was in the state squad and state
champion over the 100 Breaststroke. After serious problems the
doctors told me that I won't be able to swim again. I stopped
for over 1 year but then started again. It was a lot of hard work
and I became a freestyle sprinter. I participated in State
Championships, South German Championships, Nationals and
International Swim meets. I was 3rd in State and our relay team
hold the State record in 4x50m and 4x100m freestyle, 4x50 m
and 4x100m IM for several years. We don't have college teams in
Germany but once a year there are National College Championships at
which our relay team ranked 3rd in Fly. I was captain of our #1
team for 2 years until I quit.
In my last years of high school I stopped
swimming and concentrated on school and college. After my
internship at GCST I want to work as a teacher at a high school and
as a swim coach. After learning a lot at GCST I hope I will be a
successful coach in the future.
