WHAT IS P.R.I.D.E.?
P.R.I.D.E
What is P.R.I.D.E? This stands for Personal Responsibility In Daily Effort.
P.R.I.D.E for swimmers: Take responsibility in how you train. Do you come to practice with a positive attitude and ready to take on the challenges that your coach will give you? Do you give your best effort in workout, and at meets to reach your goals? Do you blame others for your failure? Do you try to miss important sets during workouts? Do you make excuses for poor practice attendance? Are you a good teammate, and supportive of your fellow members in their efforts to improve? Your actions will either make you successful in this sport or leave you short of making your goals.
P.R.I.D.E for parents: Take responsibility for your child’s actions. Are they doing their best? Do they pay attention to the coach, and follow the instructions given to them? Do you get them to all workouts without fail? Is it your swimmer’s fault for not meeting your expectations when you have not done your best to give them every chance to meet their goals? Do you blame the coach when you have not done everything possible as a parent to follow through for your child in meeting the workout guidelines of the team? Your actions will determine the outcome for your child.
There are no shortcuts to success in this sport. Swimming is a large commitment of time and resources, and when done properly can lead to success at high levels in the sport. There are no “magic wands”, or wishing your child can become a swimming star. Success in swimming is available to everyone, but it takes dedication by the swimmers, support from parents, and coaches that demand excellence in daily workouts. It takes everyone pulling together to be successful from the coaches, to the swimmers, and the parents.
Accountability and holding high standards are keys to success.
