Sir,
On February 4, 2013, while at the San Carlos Park Community Pool, I had a chance to witness
an awesome display of friendship and goodwill by a 5 year old young man named Hunter Seluk.
Hunter is currently enrolled in VPK at Creative World School in Estero, Florida.
On this date a teammate of Hunter's, Gio Medina was trying to help cover the San Carlos Park
Community Pool at the conclusion of swim practice. During this time Gio was accidentally
knocked into the pool, fully clothed. Gio was able to safely swim to the side of the pool, however
he was completely soaked. This was on a cold evening when Gio and his family had an
important engagement immediately after swim practice.
Hearing all of this commotion, Hunter offered Gio his clothing and said he would ride home in a
towel. This idea sounded great to all the adults, so Hunter gave up his pants, shirt and jacket to
Gio so he would be comfortable and dry.
As I witnessed this, I was in awe of the thoughtfulness of this young man towards his friend/
teammate. Gio showed his appreciation by not only thanking Hunter, but giving him a genuine
hug, all without any adult direction.
Both of these young men displayed great character and I am honored to nominate Hunter Seluk
for the Do The Right Thing award.
