GCST had an outstanding RAC Winter Classic meet in Orlando, FL on Nov. 30-Dec 3, 2023. Ellie Ruiz made her first FLAGS cut in the 11-12 Girls 500 Free. GCST swimmers had a great meet at the FHSAA 2A Finals with Lily Drons, and Katia Bushko making 2 medal stand appearances. Lily finished 7th in the 100 Free with a 53.72 , and Katia finished 6th with a 5:11.59. All swimmers qualified for prelims in their events. GCST swimmer Tomas Rodriguez has broken his own American Record in the 200 short course meters butterfly. Racing at the 15th annual Rowdy Gaines Masters Classic, one of the country’s biggest annual Masters meets, Tomas swam 2:39.50 in finals of the 200 fly. That knocks 17 seconds off his old American Record for the S9 group, which is a 2:56.47 that was set in November 2022. Tomas Rodriguez...It all paid off! I placed 3rd in the senior age group, 23rd overall. I guess I’ll start taking open water more seriously now, with its addition to the Paralympics World Series. We got the announcer to say Gulf Coast Swim Team during the awards ceremony, which was even cooler. The name of the race according to the plaque is VII Seaman Costa Cálida. RESULTS
