Henderson State graduate assistant coach  Pieter Ritz was named the recipient of  the College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) 2014 Jean Freeman Scholarship.   The Jean Freeman Scholarship is given annually to a male and a female assistant coach in each NCAA division whose exceptional contributions have brought recognition to their college or university, and whose leadership, integrity, honesty, competitive attitude and personal graciousness epitomizes those characteristics reflected by Jean Freeman.   Ritz has served as a graduate assistant coach for the Red Wave the past two years and is pursuing a master's degree in sports administration....

People will be back inside FGCU’s shuttered pool complex within weeks. Unfortunately, they won’t be swimmers. The sight of construction workers, though, is a good sign as the Lee County/FGCU Aquatics Center enters its fifth month of closure. Pool specialists examined every square inch of both pools to determine the sources of leaks that forced their closure in November. According to Steve Magiera, FGCU’s vice president for administrative services, the 25-meter pool was structurally sound but needs a new liner. The GCST Spring Invitational is now canceled due to the on going repairs at the Lee County / FGCU Aquatic Center. The repairs should be completed by the end of May. Alternate meets are being considered at this time.
